Amendment

Limitation on recognition of marriage. Only a marriage between a male and female person shall be recognized and given effect in this state.
Nevada State Constitution, Article I, Sec: 21

The amendment passed by a 70% to 30% margin in 2000. Under Nevada law, a constitutional amendment must be ratified in two consecutive general elections. On November 5, 2002, the amendment came up for a second vote, receiving the support of 67.1% of voters, with 32.7% opposed.
