Same-sex benefits for city workers OKd

The city acted within its powers six years ago when it extended benefits to the same-sex "life partners" of its employees, the state Supreme Court ruled yesterday.

2-NEWS: SS custody case before WV Supreme Court, ACLU filed amicus
West Virginia Child In Danger Of Losing Second Lesbian Mom
Charleston, West Virginia) A four year old West Virginia boy is in danger of losing his second mom following the death of his birth mother.  The state supreme Court this spring will consider to uphold a lower court ruling that gave custody of the child to his maternal grandparents, or to the partner of his birthmother, the only other parent he has ever known.

5-NEWS: LA gov. bans so discrimination for state employees

Baton Rouge Louisiana) Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has signed an Executive Order prohibiting employment discrimination against gay and lesbian state government employees. The Order also requires any business contracting with the state to have a non-discrimination policy covering their lesbian and gay workers.

Opponents seek amendment as lawmaker files same-sex marriage bill

As a state lawmaker seeks to legalize gay marriage, a church-led group has announced efforts to insert the existing definition of marriage into the California Constitution and to strip same-sex couples of domestic partner benefits.
