State Justice Rules Against 13 Couples Seeking Same-Sex Marriage By THOMAS J. LUECK NY Times

A judge in Albany yesterday rejected the claims by 13 gay and lesbian couples that they have the right to marry under the state's Constitution. It was the second ruling in two months against plaintiffs in six separate civil suits seeking state recognition of same-sex marriage.

Appellate judges mull gay marriage rights

A panel of Appellate Division judges peppered a pair of lawyers with questions yesterday during the oral argument phase of a lawsuit that will determine whether gays and lesbians have the right to marry under the New Jersey Constitution.

Federal Judge Says Lawsuit Seeking to Strike Down Oklahoma’s Antigay Adoption Law Can Proceed ‘The legislature singled out these families and tried to strip them of all legal protections, and that’s unconstitutional.’

In an order made public late yesterday, a federal judge gave the green light to Lambda Legal’s lawsuit that seeks to strike down Oklahoma’s antigay adoption law.

To say civil unions are analogous to marriage is like saying a date with Andy Rooney is the same as a date with Tom Cruise. Yet, many people, even in the gay community, erroneously believe that civil unions are simply marriage by another name. Civil unions are not a synonym for marriage, but second-class citizenship by another name.

RYAN KIM had just delivered an order - penne alla vodka and a Coke, as if he could ever forget - when his creaky old car broke down for the last time. Without wheels, he would have to quit his night job at the Italian restaurant. And with the bus drivers on strike in Los Angeles, he would have to walk a 10-mile round trip every day between his day shift as a bank teller and his room in a Salvation Army residence, what passed for home for an 18-year-old who had left it.
